Academic and administrative rules concerning exams

Exam Review

Ordinary exam review

  • Lecturers publish grades for end-of-year assessment, and set a timeframe to request an exam review.

  • Students can directly make the request to the teacher of the given subject; this does not require any administrative procedures.

Special exam review

In the event of disagreement with an ordinary exam review, students have 12 days from the day established on the academic-administrative calendar for the input of exam grades into the SIGMA system to request a special exam review.

  • The request can be made to the director of studies by means of an official form, which should be handed in to academic administration staff.

  • The director of the school will propose a review tribunal to the committee of the school within a month at the most. If it is urgent, they may name it immediately.

  • The chairperson of the tribunal is to inform the interested party of the committee's structure and will require him/her to prepare his/her arguments.

  • The tribunal will reach a decision within 1 month of its constitution. It will inform the director of the resolution, and then it will be implemented and the interested party will be informed.

  • If the student still has the resolution of a special review pending, this does not exonerate him/her from taking the exams of the current year or the cancellation procedures.

Special Exam Sitting in February

Requirements:

To request this sitting:

  • Students with a maximum of 40 credits left to finish their degree. 20 credits of which are second semester subjects.

  • Students who wish to have access to second cycle studies, or to the second cycle of first and second cycle studies. These students must have 20 credits left to finish the first cycle of the studies to which the access is given.

In both cases:

  • Students must have registered for all credits.

  • Second semester credits pending cannot be registered for for the first time in the same year the special exam is requested.

  • The application must include all pending second semester subjects.

  • Credits corresponding to work experience in companies are not included if the student registered for and passed this subject.

Application

  • The request is to be made to the school management on an application form to the Dean or the director of the school.

  • When students hand in the application form, they must indicate which one of the two exam periods they wish to apply for, if the special exams have not been successfully completed.

Timeframe for applications

The application period is set out in the academic and administrative calendar established by the governing body of the UAB.

Papers to hand in (necessary unless handed in previously)

  • Supporting document of the amount of non-UAB free-choice credits registered for..
  • Supporting document of work experience.

Cancellation of Examination Sittings

Requirements

Cancellations of examination sittings do not require any previous justification, or administrative procedure: it works automatically if the student is not present on the day of the exam. Therefore, the grade ‘no presentat' (absent) does not lead to students missing a sitting.

Observations

In the event of changes to optional or free-choice subjects, used up examination sessions will be taken into account. After 5 examination sessions the student will not be allowed to change the subject.
