Nowadays the posts of courier and tour leader demand technical preparation, a mastery of group dynamics, telecommunications techniques and, above all, a high degree of professionalism.

Success or failure of a guided activity depends on the work-related perform and coordination of a good tourist guide.

The largest tour operators and tour designers look for experienced professionals to coordinate, assess and serve tourists, who on their part are becoming more and more demanding.

The need for high-level training in the tourist industry, after positioning ourselves as the leading tour-guide trainers in Catalonia , has led us to design this course in order to offer a qualified service that meets students, companies and customers expectations.

The EUTDH (the University School of Tourism and Hotel Management) with a pioneering and innovative training model imparts the undergraduate tourism and hotel management courses, with top-up courses, as well as postgraduate and master's degrees. Fundació Prat of Barcelona is an institution with more than 90 years of experience of training and speciality in vocational training, and EST , Escola Superior de Turisme has more than 9 years of experience in training tourist guides. The three schools have cooperated in the design of this leading course programme.

Three recognized institutions, which union is kwnow as ESCOTUR , have received ISO certification for the excellence of their educational systems which, means guaranteed success for the students and for the tourist industry. Since January 2010, ESCOTUR is teaching the 'Tourist Guide National and International (Tour Guide) Course' successfully.

Professional and specialist teaching staff with recognized experience have designed a course content that caters to the current labour market needs.

This course has been certified by the main Spanish and international wholesale tour operators.

The tourism quality program of the Directorate General for Tourism of the Catalan Regional Government has celebrated the new courses on offer, types and levels.

Training for:

  • Local guides interested in extending or changing their professional field to tourist assistance.

  • Tourism graduates, qualified in Tourism (or TEAT), qualified students in tourism fields such as history, geography, humanities, environmental sciences among others with the aim of furthering their training or those interested in this profession.

  • University students in tourism fields.

  • Qualified in Advanced Marketing Degree.

  • Those with a Master's Degree in Tourism.

  • Technical experts and professionals of organizations or associations linked to tourism information, tourist group assistance and collective business.

  • Formation in company in demand for travel agencies.

Entrance Requirements

Graduate students, accredited guides, vocational training graduates, people with experience in the tourist industry or with or high school diploma or equivalent qualifications are granted priority. Registration is on a first come first served basis. Applicants that do not fulfill the requirements and would like to take the course may have an interview with the course coordinator who will discuss their proposal by taking into account academic studies.

It is highly recommended to have knowledge of a foreign language.

Course Length

Duration: 20 weeks
Commencement: January 2012 - April 2012*

1st session: 17th January, 2012.

Classroom-based sessions and instructor-led classes, walking and coach tours are every Tuesday and Thursday from 17 to 21 pm at Fundació Prat de Barcelona , 97 Roger Lluria street, in the old city (scheduled activities may commence before the teaching hours).

*The course will commence if there is a minimum of 15 students registered . In the event that the minimum required is not reached, the commencement date will be rescheduled.

Students are required to devote to the course content:

  • 84 hours of contact time.

  • 100 hours of online followup.

  • 120 hours of work placement.


In total: 304 hours (204 hours of contact time and 100 hours online followup)

Course Language

Classes are in Spanish.
The material on the virtual campus is in Spanish, and shortly it will be published in English and French.
