On 25th and 26th September 2008, the University School of Tourism and Hotel Management organised a nationwide congress named “Human capital in the tourism industry: process and challenges for the future leading companies in the future" , which focused on the relevant line of analysis of the present and future of human resources in the tourism industry. Three roundtable debates took place, where matters related to the abilities and competences of future practitioners of the industry were discussed, as well as elements of debate for the social appreciation of the profession and the challenges of immigration.

The book compiles the presentations that fed the debate about each subject matter. The authors of the texts were: José Miguel Rodríguez Antón , professor of Business Administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Ángeles Rubio , lecturer in Research and Marketing at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid and Adela Ros , director of the research programme “Immigration and Information Society” at the INE3-UOC.
